Have you ever thought about helping to set AAUW’s strategic direction, influencing the ways AAUW achieves our mission, or bringing the voice of your community, state, or region to the national stage? Running for election to the AAUW Board of Directors would let you do just that. Hundreds of leaders have contributed in just this way over the 129-year history of our organization, and now it can be your turn.
Many people think about running for elected office but are reluctant. That’s why we offer Elect Her programs that are all about helping more women to run for leadership positions in schools and organizations and for public office. Women tend to resist running for elected positions, but we need them at all levels of leadership — and especially within our own organization!
Running for any office inherently carries some anxiety with it. You hesitate to put yourself out there, to be judged, and to face failure. But candidates for the AAUW board are role models for the rest of the AAUW community, and the future of AAUW depends on having such role models demonstrate the value not only of stepping up and running for leadership positions but also of actually leading.
As an organization that is focused on supporting and growing leadership and closing the gender leadership gap, AAUW members need to be strong examples. Ask yourself, If not you, then who?
Share your skills, expertise, and passion for the future of AAUW. Become a candidate for the AAUW Board of Directors!
