AAUW and Running Start kicked off the season’s Elect Her–Campus Women Win trainings earlier this month. Elect Her encourages and trains young women to run for student government. Here are some highlights from recent events:
Ramona Oliver from Winning Over Washington cites Alderman Stephanie Kifowit’s speech as one of many inspirational moments during a training at Northern Illinois University. Oliver writes, “This rising star of Illinois politics gave the women a good dose of straight talk on what it takes to run and win. Her primary message was perseverance. She encouraged the young women to never back down, even when ‘the old boys’ club’ tells you no.”
Jessica Grounds, executive director of Running Start, shares how students at Duke University were inspired by an opening address from the school’s former President Nan Keohane. Grounds was also “thrilled to meet and listen to North Carolina state Rep. Deborah Ross, who addressed the Elect Her audience and delivered an inspiring talk about why she ran for political office and how she developed a successful campaign.”
With two trainings complete, Elect Her–Campus Women Win prepares to inspire women at 18 more schools this spring! Stay tuned!
