You probably remember growing up and playing doctor with your little stuffed teddy bear, right? For many doctors, I bet those were the moments that helped inspire them to save lives when they grew up. But going to medical school is no easy task, especially if you’re a woman.
Did you know that even in a respected profession like medicine there is a gender pay gap? In 1999 the average pay gap was $3,600 and today the still-growing number is $16,819. This makes no sense, not even to the researchers who study it.
Some people don’t see a problem with this pay gap; they argue that many women doctors trade better pay for greater flexibility and family-friendly benefits such as not being on call after certain hours. But since the pay gap is already evident in the starting salaries of male and female physicians, it’s clear that there’s more to it.
Researchers at the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois, Chicago, acknowledge that an increase in gender discrimination and a lack of negotiation skills among women could be factors. This is in line with the findings of AAUW’s research report Behind the Pay Gap, which showed that just one year out of college, women and men entering the same fields faced a pay gap. Discrimination and salary negotiation skills were found to be possible contributing factors.
It’s harder to change gender discrimination, but AAUW is working to address negotiation skills through our $tart $mart salary negotiation workshops for college women.
Every kid who plays with a teddy bear and dreams of being a doctor deserves the chance to be paid well and equally for her or his work.

Great post right here. One thing I’d like to say is most professional domains consider the Bachelor Degree just as the entry level requirement for an online diploma. Although Associate Diplomas are a great way to begin, completing your own Bachelors presents you with many entrances to various professions, there are numerous online Bachelor Diploma Programs available by institutions like The University of Phoenix, Intercontinental University Online and Kaplan. Another concern is that many brick and mortar institutions offer Online variants of their diplomas but usually for a extensively higher price than the corporations that specialize in online course programs.
In these days of austerity in addition to relative anxiousness about
having debt, a lot of people balk resistant to the
idea of having a credit card in order to make purchase of merchandise and
also pay for any occasion, preferring, instead to rely on a tried in addition to trusted means
of making repayment – hard cash. However, if you have the cash on hand to make the purchase
entirely, then, paradoxically, that is the best time for them to use the card for several good
reasons.
I have learned several important things as a result of your post.
I would also like to state that there may be a situation
where you will apply for a loan and never need
a cosigner such as a Fed Student Support Loan. But if you are getting a loan through a
standard loan company then you need to be made ready to have
a co-signer ready to allow you to. The lenders will certainly base their own decision on the few issues but the
greatest will be your credit worthiness. There are
some loan companies that will also look at your work history and determine based
on that but in many instances it will depend on your scores.
Hello there! This post couldn’t be written any better! Going through this article reminds me of my previous roommate! He continually kept talking about this. I most certainly will send this post to him. Pretty sure he’s going to have a very good read.
