Elect Her–Alabama Women Win participants are now armed with the tools they need to be campus leaders!
Elect Her–Campus Women Win, a collaboration between AAUW and Running Start, encourages and trains college women to run for student government. Follow the links below to read highlights from this spring’s trainings.
Despite the Odds, Change Is Possible — University of Alabama
It can be done. We need to have more women, more diverse groups, more people from different social backgrounds on campus to come into [the Student Government Association] and make it truly representative of the students here at this university.
North Carolina Women Are Taking Over! — Duke University
The women really showed off when it came time for the campaign simulation. Last year, it took some urging to get the women to participate in the exercise. This year, I could barely get through the instructions before they were out the door, armed with their elevator speeches!
Virginia Students Aspire to Political Leadership — University of Virginia
Two of the students at the training were already in student government, but one, Kate Cude, had just decided to run for class president. Cude told us that she had to be convinced to run, but now she is determined to win! We talked about how to create a message that is powerful and to the point and how to get it out there to the people you need on your side.
Western Washington Women Make a Difference — Western Washington University
After spending a quick 24 hours in beautiful Bellingham, Washington, I can tell you one thing for sure: Western Washington University has no shortage of stellar women leaders. Talking to the room full of students at the Elect Her–Campus Women Win training, it was clear that Western students are passionate, motivated individuals who are eager to make a difference on their campus and beyond.
